Psychometric Testing

woman at
computer Metrics are the outcomes of measurement. Psychometrics is a specialized area that deals with measurement of psychological and psychosocial factors. Psychometric testing facilitates objective measurement, testing and assessment of attributes that cannot be observed directly. Attributes include 'latent constructs' such as intelligence, mental disorders, introversion, educational achievements, etc.

Most psychometric testing uses questionnaires or other evaluative methods to obtain objective measures relating to an individual that can then be compared to measures for a broader population group or cohort.

Psychometric testing enables specific aspects of an individual's abilities such as aptitude, cognitive abilities, personality, reading comprehension and mathematical skills to be assessed.

As a general principle, psychometric testing should only be conducted for a specific purpose, such as assessing an individual for an employment role, and identifying behaviour patterns that may indicate greater or lesser statistical probability of the individual behaving in a particular way in future. It is important to note that psychometric testing results should never be used as the sole method of evaluating an individual.

Our 'client' in relation to psychometric testing is usually a prospective employer or agency.
