Family Therapy

cheerful
family Family therapy is a form of psychotherapy that is aimed at helping families or persons in close relationships to achieve changes and healthy connections in their family lives. Family therapy often deals with issues and problems that are affecting the mental health of the whole family. Different approaches to family therapy include family systems therapy, narrative family therapy, and functional family therapy.

Family systems therapy draws on family strengths to repair relationships and address problems affecting the family.

Narrative family therapy creates a space for individuals in the family to present their own narratives. With this type of therapy, family members can begin to see family problems through the eyes of other family members, and changes can be made where necessary.

Functional family therapy, often a short duration therapy, has also been found to be effective in helping teens, adolescents, and other family members to re-engage as a functional family unit. This therapeutic approach can assist families of young people with behavioural problems, for example, to seek solutions in an atmosphere of trust and mutual respect.

Two other established forms of family therapy are psychoeducation and supportive family therapy. These modalities aim at helping families understand the mental health issues affecting family members by providing a safe and supportive therapeutic environment.

The methods employed by family therapists have potential to yield positive results through improved communication among family members, better conflict resolution, better strategies for coping with major life changes, increased levels of emotional awareness, and an overall improvement in family life.
