Alcohol and Drug Counselling |
Drug use and dependency affects every individual differently. Here we are
also talking about misuse of alcohol, where that is the concern for a
client.
There are a range of treatment options to suit individuals and their specific needs. Options include psychosocial counselling, withdrawal management, referral for detoxification and rehabilitation, and regular sessions to promote harm reduction and abstinence depending on the client's circumstances. Withdrawal management in this context refers to assisting in the care of a person who is experiencing withdrawal symptoms. Individuals who reduce or stop taking alcohol or other drugs may present with debilitating symptoms and may need both medical and mental health care including counselling. Where medical intervention is required an alcohol and drug counsellor will make an appropriate referral. Psychosocial counselling involves talking through a client's circumstances and needs and helping a client to achieve specific objectives. This approach usually helps the client to better understand the drivers for their use of alcohol or other drugs and provides support for the client to effect change and make better health choices. We recognise that lapses sometimes occur, and our approach is non-judgmental. Telehealth available. Evening and weekend appointments available. You can contact us in Australia on (02) 83107559.
